A career Nanny, much like a teacher, is able to take sole charge of children if required or work effectively as part of a successful team and have complete oversight of the emotional, intellectual and physical growth of the children in her care.  They will provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children, whilst also managing their schedules and keeping specific areas of the house tidy, clean and organized.  The most successful candidates understand that flexibility is the name of the game.

 General Responsibilities

  • Provide a stimulating environment to enhance the basic development skills of the children.  Activities should include both active and quiet time, indoor and outdoor activities appropriate to child’s age and development.

  • Oversee the daily aspects of the children’s hygiene, eating, playtime and general behavior.  Must be able to take care of the children when they get sick.  Maintain their routine and help them grow and thrive.

  • Responsible for the care and oversight of girls at night, sleeping in the room with one of the twins.

  • Organization of the children's schedule, including after school classes, camp schedule, putting binders together for school and after school classes, organizing homework and tutoring.

  • Preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children when required.

  • Light household work, setting tables, clean-up of kitchen, dining areas, organize the children’s room and play areas. Sanitize and rotate toys and alert parents when clothing is ill fitting.

  • Purchase items for the children (clothing, toys, art supplies, etc.) when needed and as directed.

  • Make children’s beds, maintain cleanliness and organization in the bedrooms, give daily baths, and keep the play areas organized.

  • Children’s laundry if required.

  • Shopping for the family, running various errands, birthday presents.

  • Coordinate with the housekeepers and other staff. Everyone must work together and support each other.

  • Take all reasonable precautions to ensure children’s safety.  Practice safety precautions and be fully aware of all posted telephone numbers and emergency plans.  Notify the parent immediately if a situation arises; practice first aid until medical help arrives.

  • Pick up children from school, as per a strict schedule; drive home or to after-school activities as directed.

  • Prep craft items per the season. 

  • Keep track of all related expenses and organize them monthly or bi-monthly for submission to the household manager for reimbursement.  Log all receipts and records of purchases.

  • Travel (domestic and international) will be required.

  • Pack children’s clothing, toys and equipment for travel

Kitchen / Meal Responsibilities

  • Responsible for giving the children nutritional meals in absence of a chef.

  • Assist with grocery shopping as needed, prepare appropriate shopping lists so that only foods that are needed are purchased. Be health conscious.  Try to use the freshest foods and use organic when possible.

  • Try out different recipes with the children and have fun with cooking and baking.
